About

I'm Callan, a writer, painter and IT professional based in Austin, TX.

I spent the last decade building IT infrastructure at small/medium businesses, and I've been making art for as long as I can remember. In 2024, I started posting on Twitter and it changed my life.

The art

I paint in oils—scenes, objects, and moments that stick with me, usually from photographs I took. I'm drawn to light, texture, and the way ordinary things can feel specific and universal at the same time.

I wrote up my full art journey — from childhood self-portraits in 1996 to where I am now.

I take commissions and love painting things that matter to people. If you're interested, check out the commissions page.

The tech

I'm a Platform and Infrastructure Engineer with 10 years of professional experience, but a lifelong love of technology. I built and managed the macOS endpoint platform at a financial services firm in New York from scratch—(near) zero-touch deployment, compliance automation, identity management, everything. I've worked across AWS, Microsoft 365, SIEM monitoring, and cybersecurity compliance.

I've been building and debugging systems by hand for a decade, so when LLMs and AI tooling exploded on the scene, I knew exactly where to point them. I use Claude Code daily now for scripting, automation, and building things like this site. I'm closely following where AI is headed.

The rest

2025 was a transformative year. I left my job, went through some major life changes, and came out the other side with a much clearer sense of who I am. I moved to Austin to be with the person I want to spend my life with.

I'm looking for my next role now and still figuring out what shape that'll take. It might be directly tied to my IT background, it might not—I'm open! If you know of anything that might be a good fit, please reach out!

I write about all of it—art, tech, life—on my blog.
